In effort to raise awareness of and participation in the U.S. Census, the FPPC is now featuring on its website information on the census and its importance to Californians. The FPPC home page now features a link to the Secretary of State’s “All Californians Count” website, with information on the census ranging from what it is, how it works, and how it affects both the representation of and services provided to all Californians.
“We are more than happy to help spread the word on just how important it is for everyone to take a few moments and fill out their census forms,” said FPPC Chair Richard C. Miadich. “The FPPC is vital to the integrity of the political process, and that process itself is strengthened and enhanced by a robust and accurate census count.”
The U.S. Constitution requires that every person living in the United States is counted every ten years. The “All Californians Count” website includes links to a variety of resources to learn more about the census, such as how it is conducted, the privacy of those involved, and what the count means in terms of proper representation for California in Congress and the federal funding California receives based on an accurate population count. There is also a link to the census itself, either the online form or phone numbers to call to take part in the census. Other information is provided regarding some specific California counties.
The website also includes a video message from Secretary of State Alex Padilla on the importance of everyone in California, from immigrants to long time residents, young and old, from every walk of life, to take part in the census.
“Ensuring all Californians are fairly and accurately counted in the 2020 Census is imperative if our State is going to receive its fair share of federal funding and Congressional representation for the next decade,” said Secretary of State Padilla. “Your participation in the census means vital services such as education, health care, environmental protection and others, as well as accurate political representation, will be secured.”
The “All Californians Count” link is now prominently featured on the FPPC website (https://fppc.ca.gov/).
The Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) is California’s governmental ethics and campaign disclosure agency.
