(Los Angeles, CA) – In response to the devastating Eaton and Palisades wildfires in Los Angeles, the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) has voted unanimously to extend the deadline for LA-area public officials to file their annual financial disclosures – known as Statements of Economic Interests (Form 700s) from April 1, 2025 to June 2, 2025.  This action was taken in response to a request from Los Angeles County, which cited the unprecedented devastation caused by the fires—including 28 combined casualties and the destruction of over 16,000 structures—as justification for the extension.

“The FPPC is committed to balancing the immediate needs of Los Angeles County with the public’s right to transparency,” said FPPC Chair Adam E. Silver. “This extension provides affected public employees and officials with the flexibility they need during this critical time, but make no mistake, we are committed to holding officials accountable and will take necessary action against any who fail to disclose their interests by the new deadline,” Chair Silver continued.

The Commission extended the existing filing deadline for those public officials whose primary residence, primary work location or filing office is located within Los Angeles County.

The extension is part of a larger, coordinated effort with the Governor, LA County and other stakeholders to assist public officials in Los Angeles County navigate and comply with the state’s ethics rules.  This includes Executive Order N-17-25, issued by the Governor on February 4, 2025. The order extends the deadline for similar filings required when a public official assumes or leaves office. A copy of the order may be found here: https://www.gov.ca.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/EO-N-17-25.pdf.

To further assist during this time, FPPC staff will provide additional support through trainings and targeted educational materials tailored to those affected by the wildfires.

“We greatly appreciate how responsive and thoughtful the Governor and FPPC have been to the needs of our constituents, staff and officials,” said Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel. “We’re confident that this extension will allow our local leaders to effectively serve our constituents while also ensuring timely and meaningful transparency.”

The mission of the Fair Political Practices Commission is to promote the integrity of state and local government in California through fair, impartial interpretation and enforcement of political campaign, lobbying and conflict of interest laws.
